We opened the season with a bang on April 10th at the Greater Springfield Farmers Market and what a beautiful day it was. The market has moved up to the northwest corner of the mall parking lot at the corner of Battlefield and Glenstone. The summer-like weather had everyone really excited about plants and gardening. This market is huge and has many vendors attending early. Brad is currently working as the market manager so he is a busy little beaver working with vendors and customers while Writa faithfully helps our customers. Although its early we have had beautiful Champion and French Breakfast radishes, lucious lettuce and spinach, and bunches of green onions. We also have a variety of starts for your garden including squashes, cucumbers, okra, tomatoes, canteloupe, zucchini, and sugar baby watermelons. This market is every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday mornings opening at 8:30 am until approximately noon.
Our opening day at the Fair Grove Farmers Market was April 21st at the old mill pavilion. It was another successful day with the Kids Club handing out trees donated from the Conservation Department and dulcimer music provided by the Master Garderners son. The next week, the Director of Agriculture, Jon Haegler awarded the 2010 Farmers Market of the Year award to Deb, our market manager. We are very proud of her and thank her so much for all the hard work she puts in the make this market one of the best in the state, if not the whole united states. This market is every Wednesday from 3:30 pm until 7:00 pm.
We also are attending the newly organized Christian County Farmers Market in Ozark located near the Ozark Community Center off 14 Hwy going into town. Our opening day there was right after Fair Grove on Thursday, April 22nd. It was a great turn out for the first day and we are looking forward to helping establish a great quality market there. This market is once a week on Thursdays from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Well, you can see, we have our work cut out for us. But we look the work and bringing you the best quality vegetables available. Remember, if you eat fresh and buy local, you will stay healthy and help your neighbor in the process. Thanks for all your support.
